    Video Introduction:

Chongqing Science and Technology Museum is one of the ten key social and cultural infrastructure projects determined by Chongqing municipal Party committee and government. It is a grand, modern, comprehensive, and multi-functional venue open to the public for the popularization of science education. It is a basic facility essential to the strategy of revitalizing Chongqing through science and education, and to the effort of improving the scientific and cultural awareness of the citizens. The museum is situated at the core of Jiangbeizui CBD of Chongqing at the confluence of the Jialing River and the Yangtze River. Its ground-breaking ceremony was held on January 7, 2006, and its official construction got under way in October the same year. On September 9, 2009, the museum was unveiled and opened to the public. With a total investment of 567,000,000 RMB, the museum covers a land area of 37 mu and boasts a floor area of 48,300 ㎡.

The exterior decoration of the museum consists of stone and glass. The crisscrossed and overlapping stone material of different colors on the outer wall looks like hard rocks and acts as a metaphor of mountain. Meanwhile, the glass curtain wall, which accounts for 60% of all the outer wall and reaches nearly 10,000 ㎡, is clear and transparent and therefore symbolic of water. The angular stone material and the transparent glass exactly manifest the characteristics of the riverside mountain city—Chongqing. The museum is made up of two zones. The highest part of Zone A is about 57m high and the lowest about 24m high. Seen from the sky, the museum looks like a gigantic fan-shaped crystalline palace and takes on an air of grandness and brilliance.

The museum has 6 themed exhibition halls and two special halls called Science Park for Children and Industry Hall. The themed halls are respectively labeled as Life & Science, Disaster Prevention, Transportation & Science, National Defense, Space Navigation, and Basic Science. The exhibits cover a wide range of fields such as material, machinery, transportation, war industry, aerospace, microelectronics, communication, computer appliance, virtual reality technology, bioscience, environmental science, basic science, and ancient Chinese science and technology. The permanent exhibits in the museum number more than 400 pieces or sets.

The museum offers both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Meanwhile, it is useful to academic exchange, scientific report, science-technology training, projection of videos for science popularization, research and development of scientific exhibits, and the scientific creation of adolescents. It is a temple of science learning for the public and the adolescents in particular. It is an important venue for the transmission of scientific and technological civilization and advanced culture.

Chongqing Science and Technology Museum aims to one of distinctive Chongqing flavor which is globally advanced and domestically top-grade. It helps to popularize science education among the public by offering them exhibitions of science education, science-technology training, and opportunities for scientific experiment. All the staff of the museum will never slacken their efforts to improve and extend the construction of its functional system, so as to make it a platform for the public to appreciate the charm of science, a temple to inspire innovative ideas, a showcase for scientific and technological achievements, and a field for science popularization.
